ELWOOD LEPEL
is a Research Scientist with Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. He currently manages the QA/QC and Sample Analysis tasks for the Hanford Site Surface Environmental Surveillance Project. Mr. Lepel has been actively involved in the nuclear and radiochemical analysis of terrestrial and extra-terrestrial materials. For the past fifteen years, he has been the Manager of the Low-level Counting Laboratory operated by the Radiation Detection and Nuclear Sciences Group. In addition, he has participated in the development of radiation detection systems. Mr. Lepel has been involved in the preparation of radiochemical standards in various matrices.
As manager of the QA/QC task, Mr. Lepel is responsible to oversee the collection of replicate samples and analysis, analysis of field blanks and reference standards. He performs a quarterly review of the QC data obtained from the Contract Laboratory as required by the Statement of Work.
As manager of the Sample Analysis task, Mr. Lepel is the Technical Administer for the analytical contracts with various laboratories. He oversees the participation of the Contract Laboratories in performance evaluation samples and their participation in other interlaboratory crosscheck studies
