Joanne Duncan
is a Research Scientist in the Environmental Technology Division of Battelle, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL). Ms. Duncan received her BA in Biology from Hood College in Frederick, MD in 1979, and has achieved a diverse multidisciplinary background through a variety of assignments at PNNL and other federal facilities.
Ms. Duncan has conducted wildlife surveys and worked for USDA for several years, examining the allelopathic effects of various compounds on seed germination. She also worked for the Department of the Army conducting entomological research for the Medical Corps.
Ms. Duncan began her career at PNNL in 1991, working on the Hanford Environmental Dose Reconstruction project. She provides technical expertise to a wide variety of environmental, engineering, and ecological projects. Ms. Duncan has been active as an essential contributor to the development and field advancement of the Sensor Fish, an autonomous data acquisition device used to characterize hydraulic conditions of dam passage. She has been active in National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) writing including several Hanford Site Environmental Impact Statements and the Hanford Site NEPA Characterization Report.
Ms. Duncan is a contributor to the DOE’s annual Hanford Site Environmental Report, acting as editor to the Compliance and Environmental Restoration and Waste Management Operations sections, and has recently been assigned as report production manager.
